Supporting Reliable, Systematic Reuse in Embedded Systems

Software engineering has understood for many years that rewriting the same software, over and over again, is expensive. Software reuse is not commonplace, however, and the research community has begun to address this problem. We seek an understanding of the factors which enable or inhibit reuse, and of the techniques and methods which succeed in supporting systematic reuse. By encouraging reuse in an embedded control enviroment, it is hoped that this understanding can be found in a domain which has traditionally been regarded as a difficult location for reuse.
